Alice, the doula

I’m Alice — a doula, student midwife and mum of two based in the inner west of Melbourne.

I am deeply passionate about providing new parents with physical, emotional and informational support as they navigate the transformative period that is pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

From birthing my first child while working as a lawyer in a private hospital with an OB, to seeing private midwifery and fertility services to hold me through two miscarriages, to a homebirth for my second son, I’ve experienced the both ends of the spectrum of pregnancy care and I’m passionate about your birth choices. About you knowing them, and making autonomous decisions with them in mind.

I bring a wealth of knowledge and lived experience to my support of new parents — having come to the world of birth and postpartum from a career in family law, and experiencing my sense of purpose utterly transformed by motherhood. A firm believer that it takes a village, I hope to deliver to my clients that feeling of weightlessness and warmth that comes when someone who ‘gets it’ walks in the door and is there to help. I hope my practice as a doula can help new parents to avoid the isolation, stress, and feelings of self-doubt that new parents are left to face if the village support doesn’t arrive.

I believe that the care and support for new parents shouldn’t end at the door of the hospital or their midwife’s clinic, and that postnatal care shouldn’t be limited to that which a maternal child healthcare nurse can offer. New parents deserve to be listened to, understood, fed and empowered with evidence-based information and support so that they can thrive in the fourth trimester, rather than just scrape through.

I provide in-home and virtual doula support — from pregnancy, birth and postpartum planning in pregnancy to care after birth. My postpartum care is generous, flexible, and designed to hold space for whatever my clients need on the day. This can include the preparation of nourishing meals and snacks; caring for baby and older children to allow you to recharge; assistance with newborn care, settling, breastfeeding or bottle feeding; debriefing about birth or emotional challenges; and referrals to a network of experts and assistance in organising those appointments.
